UCLA basketball: Kyle Anderson named Wooden Award finalist

UCLA guard Kyle Anderson has been selected one of 15 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award.

Anderson, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, is averaging 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists this season. He needs five assists to become the first Pac-12 Conference player to have 200 rebounds and 200 assists in one season.

The other finalists: Nick Johnson (Arizona), Cleanthony Early (Wichita State), Tyler Ennis (Syracuse), C.J. Fair (Syracuse), Gary Harris (Michigan State), Sean Kilpatrick (Cincinnati), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Shabazz Napier (Connecticut), Jabari Parker (Duke), Casey Prather (Florida), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Russ Smith (Louisville), Nik Stauskas (Michigan) and Andrew Wiggins (Kansas).

The Wooden Award, which is presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, honors the top player in college basketball based on performance in the regular season and postseason as well as character. A 10-man All-America team will be announced during the NCAA tournament.

The award winner will be announced during a presentation at the Los Angeles Athletic Club during the weekend of April 11-12.
