Texas Coach Mack Brown says he’s not the retiring type

Two straight lopsided losses to Oklahoma have certainly discouraged Texas fans, but not Longhorn Coach Mack Brown.

Brown quelled rumors Monday by saying he has no plans to retire in the wake of Saturday’s 63-14 loss to Oklahoma.

Oklahoma has outscored Texas, 118-38, the last two years.

“I’m way too competitive and have way too much pride to leave something bad,” Brown said in a article posted by HornsNation.

Brown recently turned 61 and has led Texas to two BCS title games, winning it all in 2005. After a 4-0 start, he had high hopes of turning around last year’s 5-7 campaign. The Longhorns, though, have surrendered 111 points in consecutive losses to West Virginia and Oklahoma.

The defense, which finished No. 11 nationally last year and No.6 against the run, has been abysmal. The Longhorns rank 99th in defense this week and are No. 103 against the run.

“In your life, if you start quitting, then you’re a quitter,” Brown said. “You need to compete. You don’t sign up for just the good days.”

Brown would be happy now just to get voted “Best Coach This Week.”
