They couldn't have waited a day?

The New York Mets traded outfielder Marlon Byrd to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, a move that actually makes a lot of sense. There was one big problem though: Tuesday night was Marlon Byrd T-Shirt Night at Citi Field.

Byrd, 35, is having a solid season, hitting .285 with 21 home runs. He is also a free agent at the end of the year, and with the Mets out of playoff contention, trading him to the Pirates along with catcher John Buck for infielder Dilson Herrera, who was a top 10 prospect for the Pirates, was a good move to make.

But on Marlon Byrd T-Shirt Night?

So Tuesday, about 30,000 fans got a shirt for a guy who was no longer on the team. The shirts had Byrd's name and No. 6 on the back, with a pair of wings and "Let it Fly" on the front.

Oh, the Mets let Byrd fly. All the way to Pittsburgh.
