Mike Holmgren tries to make amends with Browns great Jim Brown

Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren, who caused a rift with legendary running back Jim Brown when he dismissed him as a special adviser to the Browns when Holmgren became president in 2010, wants to make things right.

Holmgren says plans to meet with the Hall of Fame running back in the next few days, hoping to repair their relationship. Brown has told the team he will take part in alumni activities this weekend surrounding Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Brown was so upset by Holmgren’s decision to change his role with the club that he refused to attend the ceremony in which the Browns unveiled a ring of honor inside their stadium, a permanent display instituted by Holmgren.

Brown will be on the field for a halftime ceremony this Sunday as former Browns players Ernie Green and Clarence Scott are inducted into the team’s legends club.

“I would like Jim Brown to come and be a part of this and feel comfortable doing that and I would welcome him with open arms,” Holmgren said. “How the Browns view Jim Brown hasn’t changed and will never change. I would love to see Jim Brown walk in right now or come to the legends thing, be a part of this.”

The greatest Brown of them all, Brown rushed for 12,312 yards in nine seasons with Cleveland before retiring to pursue an acting career. He is the franchise’s career leader in rushing yards, attempts and touchdowns. His No. 32 is retired by the Browns.
