Mike Wallace agrees to deal with Dolphins

Mike Wallace is heading for warmer weather.

The NFL Network is reporting that the former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver has agreed to sign with the Miami Dolphins.

Wallace made 235 receptions for 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns in four seasons with the Steelers. In 2010, Wallace caught 60 balls for career highs in receiving yards (1,257 yards) and touchdowns (12), but his numbers have slightly declined since becoming the No. 1 option the previous two seasons.

The Dolphins add a big-play threat for second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Wallace joins a receiving corps that includes Brian Hartline, who signed a five-year, $30.77-million contract last week following his breakout season in 2012.

All is not lost for the Steelers, though. Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports Pittsburgh plans to re-sign 35-year-old receiver Plaxico Burress to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum.

While retaining Burress doesn’t really compare to losing Wallace, he is just two years removed from an eight-touchdown season — you know, his first back in the NFL after serving close to two years in prison after shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub.
