Jack Roush won NASCAR’s first Chase for the Cup title playoff with Kurt Busch at the wheel in 2004.

But the co-owner of the Ford team now called Roush Fenway Racing hasn’t won the championship since then. Now, with two of this year’s 10 Chase races in the books, the team heads to Dover, Del., for the next race on Sunday hoping the title doesn’t slip away yet again.

Two of Roush Fenway’s drivers are in the Chase: Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle. Edwards is fourth in the standings, 36 points behind leader (and former Roush Fenway driver) Matt Kenseth, and Biffle is fifth, 38 points back.

Ahead of them are Kenseth and Kyle Busch -- who placed first and second, respectively, in the first two Chase races -- followed by five-time champion Jimmie Johnson, who’s third in the standings, 18 points behind Kenseth.

Johnson is a seven-time winner at Dover International Speedway, dubbed “The Monster Mile,” but Roush Fenway has had its share of success there as well. Biffle is a two-time winner and Edwards won there in 2007.

“I’m very optimistic about Dover and feel that we can get ourselves on track and close some of the [points] gap,” Roush said. “Dover is a good track for us.”

And Biffle well knows that even though Kenseth won the first two races, there’s a long way to go.

“I’ve won the first two Chase races and then didn’t win the championship,” Biffle said, referring to wins at New Hampshire and Dover in 2008. But he finished third in the standings that year.
