A skydiver found dead after colliding with another parachutist in San Diego County was identified as the brother-in-law of NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Jordan Janway, 27, died Sunday while skydiving with two others over the area of Jamul, Calif., the San Diego County medical examiner’s office said.

Janway was the brother of Johnson’s wife, Chandra, according to a statement on Johnson’s website.

“Jordan was an incredible son, brother, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed,” the statement said, adding that the families asked for prayers and privacy.

The medical examiner’s website said Janway, who lived in San Diego, “for unknown reasons” collided with one of the other jumpers during free fall and failed to open his parachute.
