NCAA women’s tournament: USC vs. St. John’s, CSUN vs. South Carolina

USC will play St. John’s and Cal State Northridge will play South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament.

Connecticut (34-0), Notre Dame (32-0), South Carolina (27-4) and Tennessee (27-5) are the top-seeded teams in a 64-team bracket that was announced Monday. The tournament begins Saturday and ends with the Final Four April 6-8 in Nashville.

USC (22-12), which won the Pac-12 Conference tournament, is seeded ninth in the Louisville Regional and will play eighth-seeded St. John’s (22-10) on Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Trojans, under first-year Coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, are in the tournament for the first time since 2006.

Northridge (18-14) won the Big West Conference tournament to earn its second NCAA tournament bid since moving to Division I, its first under fourth-year Coach Jason Flowers.

Northridge is seeded 16th in the Stanford Regional and will play South Carolina on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
