New NFL uniforms: Seattle Seahawks get neon makeover

Share

Nike revealed its new NFL uniforms Tuesday. And unlike the somewhat unconventional looks of the company’s college apparel, the pro football garments are sticking with a mostly traditional look ... with one exception.

The Seattle Seahawks were the only team that requested a new look from Nike, which took over the NFL clothing license from Reebok on April 1. And, boy, did they ever get a new look. Anyone who thinks neon went out in the ‘80s with lip gloss and plastic bracelets may need to think again.

OK, it’s not that bad. The uniforms are actually a deep blue, but there’s a decent amount of bright, lime-green highlighting on the jerseys, pants and helmets (in the bird’s eye, no less). The fingers and thumbs on the gloves are also the same, seemingly glowing color.

Also, the Denver Broncos will switch to an orange jersey from navy blue. Other than that, the uniforms of the other teams are mostly unchanged -- at least in appearance.

“The difference is in the feel, and it’s lighter,” said Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, one of 32 players wearing his new uniform for the first time for the unveiling at a Brooklyn film studio. “I don’t know if it will make me faster, but I hope so.”
