What’s in a name? A lot if the name is Neymar
SAN DIEGO -- Soccer superstar Neymar is from Brazil and will play next season in Spain. But he also has a growing fan base in the Bolivian capital of La Paz.
According to government officials there, 20% of male newborns are being given the name Neymar.
“We believe that in 17 years most adult males will be called Neymar because that is the current trend,” Remigio Condori, a civil registry office representative, told the Bolivian newspaper La Razon.
“It is the name in fashion right now.”
Expect that trend to increase in strength should Neymar lead Brazil to its sixth World Cup title when it hosts the tournament in 2014.
