Oregon’s Nick Aliotti apologizes for rant against WSU’s Mike Leach

It usually happens like this: An emotional coach goes off on a post-game rant, it goes viral and the coach later apologizes.

And so it was with Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti, who has apologized for calling Washington State Coach Mike Leach “low-class” for passing on Oregon’s scout team late in a lopsided game.

“The bottom line is, I’m sorry,” Aliotti said in a statement released by the school. “I’m embarrassed that I got caught up in the moment after the game. There’s no excuse, but sometimes, right after the game, the adrenaline is still flowing and I made a huge, human error in judgment. I wish I could take it back, and I promise it won’t happen again.”

Oregon took out its starters after gaining a 62-24 lead, but Washington State continued to pass, scoring two late touchdowns to make the final score 62-38.

Cougars’ quarterback Connor Halliday ended up with an FBS-record 89 pass attempts.

Aliotti said it was “BS” that Leach kept throwing and told reporters: “You can print that and send it to him.”

Leach responded to Aliotti by not responding.

“I don’t criticize other teams or coaches,” Leach wrote in a text to the Seattle Times.
