Twenty-five years after winning the British Open at St. Andrews, Nick Faldo has announced that he will be make his final appearance at the tournament there this summer.

The Old Course seems like a suitable location for the 57-year-old golfer’s farewell turn.

“My fondest memories on my journey with this great sport are woven with pictures and emotions in this setting,” he said. “It all means a huge amount to me.”

In addition to his 1990 victory at the famed “Home of Golf,” he also won the British Open when it was played at Muirfield in 1987 and 1992.

Faldo has not survived the cut at the British Open in years and admitted to thoughts of retiring last year, but said he was drawn back one more time by the lure of St. Andrews.

Tom Watson -- a five-time champion -- previously announced that he will also be making his final appearance at the tournament in mid-July.
