Jason Pierre-Paul, Prince Amukamara put cold water on hazing video

New York Giants teammates Prince Amukamara andJason Pierre-Paul insist that everything is fine between them. But that’s not how it appeared in a locker-room video, which was initially tweeted by punter Steve Weatherford and has since gone viral.

In the video (warning: offensive language) shot during training camp a couple of weeks ago, Pro Bowl defensive end Pierre-Paul is seen carrying second-year cornerback Amukamara through the locker room and dumping him into a tub of ice water.

While many teammates are cheering Pierre-Paul on, someone -- either Amukamara or some compassionate soul -- can be heard shouting, “What are you doing?” and “This is ridiculous!”

As a soaking-wet, presumably freezing cold and generally unhappy Amukamara climbs out of the tub, someone -- Pierre-Paul? -- can be heard repeatedly yelling, “You stand up for yourself!”

The video has been perceived by many as an example of hazing or bullying. To watch the video on YouTube, viewers must acknowledge that they realize that it may contain content flagged as inappropriate by some viewers.

The YouTube posting of the video -- which has gotten more than 94,000 views -- also has its own disclaimer, saying “This video is NOT intended for bullying or harassment. This is a showing of the cruel nature of NFL football locker rooms towards a young ... player. This was posted by P Steve Weatherford. Hazing is bad, and this video is to serve awareness not to offend.”

Amukamara and Pierre-Paul said Monday that they are friends and the incident was simply a football tradition. Weatherford, who tweeted the video on Saturday, took it down Sunday and apologized to teammates and fans the next day.
