Mike Shanahan says he’s not resigning as Redskins coach

Mike Shanahan had a change of heart.

A day after walking out of a press conference refusing to answer questions about his job status, the Washington Redskins coach spent some time Monday talking to reporters about ... his job status.

Shanahan confirmed that he has no plans to resign from his position despite the team’s 3-11 record and rumors that his days with the organization are numbered.

“I’ll get a chance to sit down with Dan [Snyder] at the end of the season,” Shanahan said. “I’ll give him my opinion on the direction I think the franchise could go. He’s going to give me his idea what he wants to do, he’s the owner of the football team. But all we can do at the end of the season is communicate, and I think we have that kind of relationship where we can be honest with each other.”

And even though the coach ended star quarterback Robert Griffin III’s season with three games remaining and replacement Kirk Cousins played well against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Shanahan stressed that RG3 is “clearly” the team’s starting quarterback of the future.

Now, who the coach of the future might be? That’s not quite as clear.
