It didn’t take long for the job offers to start rolling in for Kevin McHale, who was fired as the Houston Rockets’ coach less than 24 hours ago.

Boston Celtics President Danny Ainge said Thursday he’s already reached out to his former teammate.

“We’ve got a spot for him,” Ainge said, according to the Boston Globe. “I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he’s just in a wait-and-see mode.”

The Rockets fired McHale after the team, which had reached the NBA playoffs for three straight years, opened the season 4-7. Houston was eliminated in the Western Conference finals last year by the eventual NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors.

“He appreciated me reaching out to him, but I think he’s just going to lay low. He’s probably got bigger and better things to do — or more relaxing things to do. He’ll have some opportunities in TV, and maybe when the dust settles I can get him out to teach the slippery eel to Kelly [Olynyk] and Sully [Jared Sullinger] and Amir [Johnson].”

McHale, 57, was 193-130 in four years as the coach of the Rockets. He was a seven-time All-Star and spent 13 years in the NBA with the Celtics, winning three titles (1981, 1984, 1986).

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
