Royce White in limbo again after being released by Philadelphia 76ers
These could be Royce White’s final NBA stats: two teams, zero minutes played.
In what may go down as one of the saddest stories involving a first-round draft pick not named Len Bias, White has been waived by the Philadelphia 76ers after playing in five exhibition games.
His release comes after never having played for the Houston Rockets, the team that selected him 16th overall in the 2012 draft and later traded him to the 76ers following a season that included a suspension and a stint in the Development League.
The forward who has been plagued by anxiety issues, including an intense fear of flying, boarded short flights for the 76ers’ final two exhibition games but played poorly in each game. He also was ejected from a game against Cleveland in Columbus, Ohio, after a heated exchange with Cavaliers guard Jarrett Jack, who wasn’t even playing that night.
White averaged 5.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in the preseason, making one start.
Based on a series of tweets Royce composed, he did not seem bitter about his latest NBA setback.
