Shakin It Up with David Flores wins Santa Anita’s Malibu Stakes

Shakin It Up stormed up the outside lane to win the $300,000 Malibu Stakes race Thursday in the opening of Santa Anita Park’s winter/spring meeting.

Ridden by David Flores, Shakin It Up caught and passed Central Banker and Zeewat, which finished second and third, respectively, in the final furlong.

The Malibu Stakes is a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds, and Shakin It Up was one of three horses in the 11-horse race trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.

Shakin It Up went off at 17-to-1 odds and paid $36.00 to win.

Santa Anita’s winter/spring meeting extends through April 20 and then, after a four-day break, continues through June 29.

The Arcadia track normally had ended the meet in April. But it’s extending its calendar starting this year because of the closure of Betfair Hollywood Park in Inglewood last week.

Santa Anita said 30,540 attended its nine-race opening day Thursday.
