For the second consecutive year, Steve Stricker has pulled out of the British Open.

The 47-year-old still ranks among the Top 20 golfers in the world but has been cutting back on his schedule over the past year or so to spend more time with family. When he played at the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia last week, his wife caddied for him.

His withdrawal opened up a spot for Ryo Ishikawa of Japan, who moved to the top of the reserve list just in time.

Winning in Japan last week, Ishikawa rose more than 20 spots to No. 76 in the world rankings and thus became the first alternate.
