National signing day: Steven Mitchell is the loyal Trojan

Share

At a time when some USC fans are in panic mode because at least half a dozen high school players have changed their minds about signing with the school, Steven Mitchell remains the loyal future Trojan.

Since he was 7 and playing for the Pasadena Trojans, Mitchell has dreamed of playing football for USC. The standout receiver from Mission Hills Alemany will make it official Wednesday morning when he signs his letter of intent at Victory Park in Pasadena.

“What’s a better place than where it first started,” Mitchell said.

He was 6 years old. Soon, he was playing for a youth team called the Trojans.

“It’s crazy, because when I played for the Trojans, I thought I was Reggie Bush.”

Mitchell, considered one of the top receivers in Southern California, made a commitment to USC months ago and hasn’t wavered.

“It’s been drama free,” he said. “I knew exactly where I was going. I’m pretty happy with the whole recruiting process in high school. I’m ready for the next level.”
