Tony Stewart leads Auto Club 400 as rain halts race

Share

The Auto Club 400 was halted afetr Lap 129 because of rain. If the race does not restart Tony Stewart will be declared the winner.

There is a wall of rain behind the current conditions. Race officials are likely to wait at least an hour before deciding what to do.

If the race resumes it will be the first restart of the race.

Following Stewart, in order, were Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson.

The constant green flag racing was causing the cars to get strung out. In fact, by Lap 120 there were only 16 cars on the lead lap.

But on Lap 123 came the first caution when they spotted rain in Turn 3. They ran six laps under caution before the red flag.

Jeff Gordon might have cost himself the race on Lap 108 when he pitted and the gas can was still attatched to the car when he pulled out. He had to come back around and drive through pit row as a result of that infraction. He had made a bold move in the standings but that mistake dropped him a lap down.
