UCLA tackle Torian White has minor heart procedure

UCLA tackle Torian White underwent a procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue on Tuesday.

White, the Bruins’ starting left tackle, will miss practice this week. The Bruins do not play Saturday and are scheduled to face Arizona State on Oct. 27.

“Torian will be fine for the Arizona State game,” Coach Jim Mora said. “He will be back out practicing next week.”

White learned of the health issue during training camp in August. He missed several days because of chest pains, and tests revealed a minor problem.

The condition is not expected to affect White in the future.

Tackle Simon Goines was in pads at practice Tuesday, but Mora said he only worked out on the stationary bicycle. Goines injured his left knee against Utah on Saturday and subsequently had an MRI exam.

“They didn’t find anything serious enough to keep him out,” Mora said. “He might get some work in tomorrow, but that remains to be seen.”

Guard Greg Capella, on the other hand, is unlikely to play against Arizona State because of a concussion. He has missed the last four games. Capella also suffered a concussion during training camp.

“He is still struggling,” Mora said. “They have done the impact testing and he is still symptomatic to a certain degree. Given his history, we want to make sure he is beyond OK before we put him back out there. I would be surprised if it wasn’t a few more weeks.”
