USC football: Nelson Agholor plays through injury, scores touchdown

Share

USC receiver Nelson Agholor suffered a rib injury last week against Notre Dame, but the sophomore played through the pain and caught six passes, including one for a touchdown, in the Trojans’ 19-3 victory over Utah.

Agholor had not practiced after sustaining the injury on USC’s final offensive play in its 14-10 defeat at Notre Dame Stadium.

With All-American receiver Marqise Lee sidelined because of a knee injury, Agholor led the Trojans receiving corps against Utah.

On USC’s first play, he leaped high for a long pass but could not hold on to the ball before landing hard on the turf.

“I was fine,” he said. “I should have caught that ball regardless.”

Agholor’s first reception came late in the first quarter when he caught a 25-yard pass from quarterback Cody Kessler, and then slipped a defender at the five-yard line and dove into the end zone.

Agholor finished with six receptions for 97 yards. He has 30 receptions and three touchdowns this season.

“We did a lot of good stuff,” he said, “but we’ve got to execute more.”
