USC football: Silas Redd says he is cleared to play against Arizona

USC tailback Silas Redd said Wednesday that he was cleared to play and that he intends to make his season debut against Arizona.

Redd, a senior, led the Trojans with 905 yards rushing last season. He suffered a knee injury during spring practice and has undergone two surgical procedures.

Redd traveled with the team to last week’s game at Arizona State. He warmed up but did not play in the Trojans’ 62-41 loss.

“I just have to ease into these things,” Redd said.

The loss triggered the firing of USC Coach Lane Kiffin, marking another turn in Redd’s career.

Redd transferred to USC after the NCAA hammered Penn State with penalties related to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

“In my college career,” Redd said, “nothing surprises me anymore at all.” He added, “I’m just rolling with the punches right now.”

Redd would try and break into a tailback rotation that includes sophomore Tre Madden, who has rushed for more than 100 yards in four of five games, and freshman Justin Davis, who rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns against Arizona State.
