USC football: Receivers coach Tee Martin pursued by Tennessee

Share

USC receivers coach Tee Martin was in Knoxville, Tenn., on Monday to meet with new Volunteers Coach Butch Jones, according to several reports.

It should come as no surprise.

Martin quarterbacked Tennessee’s 1998 national championship team and would be a popular addition to Jones’ staff if he can be lured away from the Trojans.

Last week, after Jones was hired, Martin was asked about the possibility of hearing from Tennessee.

“That’s where I went to school, that’s my alma mater, that’s always home for me,” Martin told The Times. “If the opportunity presented itself, at that time, we deal with it. But as of right now nothing has happened.”

If Martin leaves USC, he would be the third receivers coach in three years to do so. John Morton left after the 2010 season to join Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers staff. He was replaced by Ted Gilmore, who coached one season before leaving for a job with the Oakland Raiders. Martin replaced Gilmore.
