X Games: Tanner Faust, Greg Tracy to take Double Loop Dare

Share

For years, Hot Wheels toy track sets have appeared somewhat impractical for real-life applications. All the twists, the turns, the loops. Surely, no full-size car could do what those toy cars on those tracks could.

Tanner Faust and Greg Tracy will have a chance to disprove that theory Saturday.

The two drivers will attempt to break a world record by driving a car through a six-story vertical loop in what is expected to be one of the big events at the X Games this weekend.

The Double Loop Dare, a life-sized spinoff of Hot Wheels’ Double Dare Snare set made by Mattel, features a bright orange track with two 60-foot vertical loops. It’ll take seven Gs of force to cycle through the two loops.

The event is set to take place Saturday at 11:20 a.m. just off South Figueroa Street, across from Staples Center. It will be nationally televised by ABC.

Faust is a three-time X Games gold medalist and two-time Formula Drift Champion, and Tracy, a six-time Pikes Peak champion.

Faust landed the world record distance jump at last year’s Indianapolis 500, and Greg has performed his share of daredevil maneuvers as a Hollywood stuntman. But defeating the Double Loop Dare could be their most difficult feat yet.

I may have to see it to believe it.
