COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Facing its first real test of the season, No. 18 UCLA came up short on the road, losing to Missouri, 80-71.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bruins (8-1), while the Tigers remained undefeated through nine games.

UCLA started well enough, building an eight-point lead by halftime.

But Missouri figured to be the most physical and defensively sound opponent the Bruins had faced in the early season, and the Tigers proved it in the second half.

Fighting for a big advantage on the boards, Missouri grabbed the lead early in the final 20 minutes and never looked back. Jabari Brown, Jordan Clarkson and Earnest Ross did most of the damage, scoring 22, 21 and 20 points, respectively. The Tigers had a 47-30 advantage in rebounding.

Jordan Adams led UCLA with 22 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Also scoring in double figures were Zach LaVine (13 points off the bench), Kyle Anderson (13) and Norman Powell (11). The Bruins had 13 steals and forced 18 turnovers.

Neither team shot well from the field, with the Tigers making 23 of 55 shots (41.8%) and the Bruins making 23 of 61 (37.7%). Missouri did make 10 of 26 (38.5%) from three-point range and 24 of 32 (75%) at the free-throw line. UCLA made 20 of 26 (76.9%) free throws and five of 20 (25%) three-pointers.
