UCLA will return to San Bernardino for training camp, but only for a week
UCLA linebacker Jayon Brown speaks at Pac-12 media days about the Bruins’ defense, including the return of Fabian Moreau and Eddie Vanderdoes, and the change in training camp.
UCLA Coach Jim Mora is finally giving in … sort of.
After four years of taking his team to San Bernardino for two weeks of training camp, Mora will give the Bruins a reprieve from the desert heat when workouts begin Aug. 8.
Week 1 of practices, when teams are allowed only one practice per day, will be held on UCLA’s campus in Westwood.
However, in Week 2, when two-a-day practices begin, the Bruins will be back in San Bernardino.
Linebacker Jayon Brown expressed relief that the Bruins wouldn’t “have to cook for two weeks.”
“Oh my goodness, 110 to 115 [degrees], it’s ridiculous, it’s so hot,” Brown said Friday at Pac-12 media days. “But one week at UCLA is lovely and we are going to make the most of that.”
Mora said he liked San Bernardino, but that it became more of a “grind and burden” to spend that much time away from campus.
UCLA opens its season against Texas A&M on Sept. 3 in College Station, Texas.
