The Clippers discuss their playoff beards [Video]

Heading into the playoffs, Blake Griffinand DeAndre Jordandecided that the Clippers should grow beards in an act of solidarity.

The rule is that the players aren’t allowed to trim their facial hair for as long as they remain in postseason play.

“Hopefully mine will get like Reggie’s,” Chris Paul said of Reggie Evan’s beard, which extends a few inches beyond his chin. “If mine can get like Reggie’s, that means we done won a few games.”

So far the bonding act appears to be working.

The Clippers overcame a 27-point deficit on Sunday evening to stun Memphis, 99-98, taking a 1-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

When asked if the beards are giving the Clippers some good luck, Paul said, “Yeah, I think that’s what it is.”

For some of the players, though, getting a 5 o’clock shadow has not been an easy task.

“I haven’t had many compliments,” said Griffin, who’s beginning to ever so slightly resemble the cavemen from the Geico commercials.

“But, you know, it’s for the team, so you got to do what you got to do.”

The Clippers are scheduled to play Memphis in Game 2 on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
