Indians place second in match
BOYS’ GOLF
Burroughs, Burbank in Pacific League Match No. 2: The Indians placed second to remain in the runner-up spot among Pacific League teams in a contest Thursday at De Bell Golf Club.
League-leading Arcadia won the match with a team total of 377. It was followed by Burroughs (403), Burbank (408) and Crescenta Valley (415).
The low-medalist was Pasadena’s Evin Davis, who fired a three-under-par 71.
The Indians were paced by Chris Kesicbasian, who shot a 78. He was followed by Kelsey Denzeisen (79) and Nick Colbert (79), Brandon Shinn (81) and Sean White (86).
For Burbank, Kenny Cunanan and Andy Chung both shot 78s. They were followed by Brady Dunayer (80), Ben Park (97) and James Chae (88).
TRACK AND FIELD
Burbank vs. Arcadia, Hoover: The Bulldogs’ teams finished second in the Pacific League tri-meet meet Wednesday at Arcadia.
The Burbank girls’ team fell to the Apaches, 75-61, and defeated the Tornadoes, 112-22. In boys’ competition, Burbank fell to Arcadia, 99-37, and finished ahead of Hoover, 93-33.
On the girls’ side, the Bulldogs had double winners in Haley Pirruccello, who won the 100 meters (13.1 seconds) and the 100 hurdles (18.06) and McKenzie Paul, who finished first in the 800 (2:22.8) and the 1,600 (5:06.8). Other Burbank winners were Danielle Reid in the high jump (4 feet 10), Hannah Park in the pole vault (8-0) and Hannah Barlow in the triple jump (31-9).
The Burbank boys had one winner in Ryan Slater, who took the 300 hurdles (44.80).
SOFTBALL
Burroughs 10, L.A. Kennedy 0: The Indians received a two-hit performance from pitcher Heather Haynes on Wednesday in a nonleague win against the defending Los Angeles City Section champion on the road.
Haynes (6-1) went the distance, striking out six and walking three in seven innings.
Shannon Trujillo powered a grand slam in the sixth inning for her fifth home run of the season. Teammate Haley Schulman went two for four with two runs batted in, Victoria Santos was two for four with a run scored and Haynes helped her own cause going two for four with two RBIs.
Burroughs scored one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The team added two in the fourth on a double by Haynes.
Kennedy had just one runner reach third base in the game.
Glendale Community College 13, Santa Monica City College 0: Burroughs High graduate Brittni Spear hit two home runs and added a triple and three runs batted in Tuesday to lead the Vaqueros in a Western State Conference Southern Division road game.
Nancy Pinedo had three hits, including a home run, for Glendale college (11-20, 6-6 in the division). Brandy Morin and Carley Zabka collected three hits apiece for the Vaqueros, who got two each from Rachael Allen and Brittany Wright.
BASEBALL
Burbank 3, Oxnard 2 (11 innings): Dylan Mersola smashed a walk-off home run with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning Thursday to carry the Bulldogs to victory in a Don Lugo Tournament game at Burbank.
Mersola was two for five with two runs scored and a run batted in. Teammate Paul Frias was two for four, as the two accounted for four of Burbank’s seven hits.
Burroughs 5, Riverside Christian 2: Casey Kenney had four hits and Hector Gonzalez added two hits and drove in two runs to poser the Indians to a win Wednesday on the road.
Ryne Kahikina had two hits, as did Eli Peppmuller. Kahikina got the win on the bound, striking out six in four innings. Dylan Goldsack and Kenney came on in relief.
Yeshiva 10, Providence 0: Pioneers’ pitcher Anthony Galvan struck out 10 on Tuesday in a home Liberty League loss in a game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Providence is 0-7, 0-2 in league.
Bellarmine 12, St. Genevieve 10: The Guards stayed in the hunt for a Santa Fe League championship with a win Friday on the road.
Brian Del Valle paced Bell-Jeff (6-1 in league), going four for five with a home run and five runs batted in. Matt Landini added two RBI on a two-for-five effort and Mitch Kellogg added two RBI.
Bellarmine-Jefferson 8, St. Genevieve 7: The Guards were able to secure the win Tuesday in a Santa Fe League game at Brace Park.
Mitch Kellogg was two for four, Philip Diaz-McTague had a hit and two walks, Ryan Okiishi had a hit and drove in two runs, Sam Kachikian was two for four with three RBI and Johnny Karalis was two for two with a walk and an RBI for Bell-Jeff.
On the mound, Matt Landini went 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and giving up just one unearned run.
