GLENDALE — The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

Heather Brusokas (Glendale High, 2006) senior, Davenport softball: During what was the most successful season in Davenport’s history, it was the former Glendale standout that led the way.

Davenport won its first-ever Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles en route to the program’s first-ever appearance in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament with Brusokas, along the way, being voted WHAC Player of the Year.

The Panthers finished up their season with three losses in NAIA pool play after winning their final nine games of the regular season.

In a 4-2 loss to Notre Dame College on Saturday, Brusokas went one for three with a run batted in in her final college game.

In collecting WHAC Player of the Year honors, Brusokas hit .431 in the regular season, notched 44 RBI and led the conference with 13 home runs. As the first-ever player of the year for Davenport, Brusokas ranked in the NAIA top 50 in 14 stat categories.

After a run through the WHAC tournament and NAIA postseason play, Brusokas’ final numbers remained outstanding.

Brusokas led her team in nearly every category, playing and starting in 56 games, tallying a .396 average, scoring 59 runs, notching 72 hits, 15 doubles, five triples, 14 homers, 139 total bases and 17 stolen bases. She also had an impressive 47 RBI and 26 walks that were second-best for Davenport, which went 38-18 with a 21-3 conference mark.

The fifth-ranked Tigers will face off with the No. 12 Washington Huskies, beginning at 6 p.m. PDT Saturday with the game airing on ESPN2. The second and a possible third game will take place Sunday with the television schedule to be determined.

Missouri advanced to the Super Regional by rallying for three straight wins in the NCAA Regionals, which it also hosted, by defeating Illinois State and DePaul, which had previously defeated it, two straight.

Poet played in four of five regional games. She was a pinch-runner or pinch-hitter in three of them, but got the start as a designated player in the regional opener, a 12-3 win over Illinois State. Poet went two for two with two runs and an RBI.

Leading into the Super Regional, Poet is hitting .225 and has played in 35 games with five starts. She’s scored nine times and driven in eight runs.

Sunday’s second game will take place at 10 a.m. on ESPN and an if-necessary game would also be on ESPN following shortly thereafter.

Cal swept through the NCAA Regionals with a 6-3 win over Jacksonville State before thumping Louisville, 4-0, and 3-0, on Saturday and Sunday to advance.

Cal, which is 42-10 and went 15-6 in the Pac-10, has used Bishop sparingly, as she’s recorded one start and played in 13 games. She’s notched one hit, one run and been hit by two pitches.
