Atlanta Falcons interested in UCLA defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich

The Atlanta Falcons have expressed interest in UCLA defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, but no job offer has been made, a person familiar with the situation said.

Fox Sports reported that Ulbrich will be hired to coach linebackers.

The timing was unfortunate for UCLA, which was in the middle of recruit signing day Wednesday. It may be causing one high school player to waiver.

Linebacker Roquan Smith committed to UCLA on ESPNU on Wednesday. He cited Ulbrich as a big reason in making his decision. Reports soon surfaced that Smith was reconsidering.

Ulbrich, who remains under contract at UCLA through the 2016 season, has been with the Bruins since Coach Jim Mora was hired after the 2011 season. Ulbrich spent two seasons as linebacker coach and helped developed Anthony Barr into an NFL prospect. He was promoted to defensive coordinator a year ago.
