A UCLA sports information department worker whispered in linebacker Myles Jack’s ear, prepping him for his media appearance on Monday.

It took nearly two minutes to go over the ground rules. Clearly, the Bruins are playing Washington this week.

Jack has been known to a say a thing or two on the field, something for which he has occasionally collected yellow flags, and he received an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty against Arizona on Saturday.

And he has history with the Huskies.

Jack played at Bellevue (Wash.) High School, just boat ride away from Husky Stadium. He chose UCLA, and seemed to rub that in a year ago by looking at the Washington bench and licking his fingers in an “um, um, good” fashion after scoring a touchdown during last season’s game.

“I forgot about that until you just reminded me,” Jack said in the media group before him Monday. “That was just emotion, like you saw last week. It was immature, looking back on it. My emotions running high, I felt it was appropriate.”

A year ago, when asked whether there was animosity toward Washington, Jack said that “the feeling was mutual.” He had 59 yards rushing, scored four touchdowns and played linebacker in the Bruins’ 41-31 victory.

Now he promises a new attitude after contributing two major penalties to Arizona’s only scoring drive Saturday.

“You’ll see my emotions tested at a high level this week,” Jack said. “I promise you I won’t do anything that puts seven points up on the board like I did last week. You have my word.”
