Here on the UCLA blog, we’ll be offering notable or funny quotes that didn’t fit into a story but still deserve to be seen. If you have a better name for this than the ever-original “Quotes from practice,” please email me at everett.cook@latimes.com.

If you missed the day’s other coverage, check out a story on Randall Goforth and Aaron Wallace.

Without further ado, here are some quotes that stood out from Wednesday’s practice.

Offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone:

On what gives his offense tempo: “Brett [Hundley]. The only thing that slows us down is me. We’re at the point now where he’s been in this offense long enough that he just looks at me and if I don’t give him a play, he just looks away and calls whatever the hell he wants to call.”

On the speed of the team: “Our tempo right now is probably the best since I’ve been here.”

On running backs: “The running backs have been consistent, in my mind, all camp. The hard decision on my part is how to get the ball in all these guys’ hands. It’s a good problem to have, and they’ve been one of the hardest-working groups all camp. I like where they’re at.”

Junior safety Randall Goforth:

On his favorite NFL player: “Definitely Troy Polamalu, that’s why I grew my hair out. I’m trying for a Head & Shoulders commercial.”

Sophomore offensive tackle Caleb Benenoch:

On freshman guard Najee Toran, who weighs 265 pounds: “Naji ... gets after it every single day. When I play tackle, it’s fun to play next to him at guard…. I think he puts a chip on his shoulder because he’s so small and nobody thinks he can do it.”

The players and coaches were also joined at practice by actor Denzel Washington. After practice, player after player asked for Washington’s picture, and Goforth ended his interview by sprinting over to the scrum, making sure he didn’t miss out.
