Vin Scully to cut back on his 2015 Dodgers broadcast schedule

Although Vin Scully plans to return for a 66th season as the voice of the Dodgers, he could reduce his workload next year by as much as 25%.

Scully said he has decided to skip road games, at least early in the season. In addition to the Dodgers’ home games, the 86-year-old Scully currently travels with the team to Anaheim, Arizona, San Diego and San Francisco.

“I’m going to go to Anaheim for sure,” Scully said Tuesday night. “But I’m going to try to cut back on nights on the road. I really want to spend more time at home.”

The Dodgers could play a total of 29 games in Arizona, San Diego and San Francisco next season. Scully said he anticipated calling some of those games late in the season, assuming the Dodgers are in contention.

“I won’t just go to go,” he said. “I would probably wait until the season unravels a little bit, rather than just go early in the year somewhere. They ought to be in another pennant race. It’s more fun.”

Scully said he was thankful to the Dodgers ownership and management for letting him work a less demanding schedule.

“They have been great,” Scully said. “They said, ‘You can do what you want.’”

Scully entered the Hall of Fame in 1982 -- the year Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was born.

Although network broadcasts keep Scully off television in October, the Dodgers use him on radio during the playoffs. Scully said he would travel to any Dodgers postseason games this year, wherever they might be played.

“Oh, yeah,” he said. “Absolutely.”
