Bakersfield Liberty linebacker Krys Barnes, who is verbally committed to UCLA, spent a portion of his week at the Opening recruiting for the Bruins.

“We’re always trying to get Mique [Juarez], Jack [Jones] – those types of guys,” Barnes said. “We are trying to get everyone we can over at UCLA.”

Juarez, a linebacker from North Torrance, is committed to USC but participated in the Bruins’ Elite Camp last month. Juarez said at the Opening that he liked both schools.

Jones, a defensive back at Long Beach Poly, said UCLA was a “great program,” and that he continued to consider the Bruins, among others. Jones will announce his commitment on signing day.

Barnes and defensive back Jordan Parker, from Franklin High in Northern California, were the only players committed to UCLA at the event.

Barnes said he was “firmly” committed to the Bruins, but that high school coaches and players have encouraged him to take his official visits “just to see what other schools have to offer.”
