Josh Shaw's heroics draw praise from Trojans and opponents

Trojans cornerback Josh Shaw praised for leaping from a second-story balcony to rescue nephew

Josh Shaw’s heroic act of saving his nephew from drowning in a swimming pool drew praise on Twitter from USC teammates, former Trojans players and opposing coaches.

Shaw suffered ankle injuries when he leaped from a second-story balcony and landed on cement before crawling into the pool. USC said he would be sidelined indefinitely.

The Trojans open the season Saturday against Fresno State.

“Incredible courage and love shown by Josh Shaw,” Fresno State Coach Tim DeRuyter wrote. “He’s in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Impressed by his character!”

USC offensive lineman Zach Banner wrote, “Josh Shaw was a great man before the incident this weekend, and it's sad but uplifting that it took this event to show the world!”

And from former Trojans defensive back Terrell Thomas: “Respect to Josh Shaw on saving his nephew from drowning. Just like a Trojan.”
