Los Angeles Loyola defensive back David Long discusses his recruitment and experience at The Opening.

If Loyola defensive back David Long chooses to stay in Los Angeles for college, his recruitment probably would come down to the relationships he’s built.

Long seems equally close with the staffs at USC and UCLA.

Long said Thursday at The Opening he had a “really good” relationship with Trojans assistant Tee Martin and a “decent” relationship with assistant Keith Heyward. Heyward recruited Long to Washington before he became an assistant at USC last year.

At UCLA, Long said he was on “great” terms with Bruins assistant Demetrice Martin. “I’ve known him since I was really young, so it’s kind of cool to have him recruiting me now,” Long said.

The 5-foot-10, 176-pound Long also is considering Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Duke and Oklahoma. He said he could “definitely” see himself leaving home for college.

Long said he could make a commitment during the season and would only make an official visit to the school to which he committed.
