If the season goes as some predict, quarterback Cody Kessler could achieve his goals, and his dreams, before he leaves USC.

The Trojans are ranked 10th in the national coaches poll and were picked to win the Pac-12 championship in a media poll.

Kessler, a fifth-year senior who will start for a third season, was named to six preseason watch lists and is among the early favorites for the Heisman Trophy.

“I’d be lying to you if I said [the Heisman] wasn’t a dream of mine,” said Kessler at Pac-12 media days, before adding that it was not his “ultimate goal.”

“Right now, obviously, my main goal is Arkansas State and then ultimately, hopefully, win the Pac-12 and put ourselves in a good position to play in January,” he said.

Kessler led USC to a 9-4 record last season, throwing 39 touchdowns and five interceptions.

USC opens against Arkansas State on Sept. 5.
