Boys’ basketball: Fremont opens Coliseum League with win over View Park

In a Coliseum League opener on Wednesday, Fremont defeated View Park Prep, 74-69. Harvey Carver had 25 points for Fremont. Kiel Rogers led View Park with 15 points. Dorsey defeated Locke, 83-44. Jon Staggers had 32 points.

In the Beverly Hills tournament, Cantwell-Sacred Heart advanced to the semifinals by handing Taft its first defeat, 57-52. Junior Avery Martinez scored 21 points. Kihei Clark scored 28 points for Taft. Santa Monica rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to stun Birmingham, 70-66. De’sean Allen-Eikens scored 21 points for Santa Monica.

El Camino Real defeated Beverly Hills, 61-49. Washington defeated Loyola, 58-52, in overtime. Loyola’s Rasheed Clarke made a basket at the end of regulation to send it into overtime. He finished with 11 points.

Eddy Egun had 13 points. Jalen Harris scored 21 points to help Windward defeat Leuzinger, 67-62, in overtime. Jules Bernard added 15 points. Damani Washington led Leuzinger with 30 points.

Rancho Mirage improved to 7-0 after a 74-43 win over Temescal Canyon. Charles Neal had 24 points.

St. John Bosco is 2-0 after a 74-47 win over Trabuco Hills. JJ Watson scored 19 points and Fernie Gomez 15.

In the Simi Valley tournament, Valencia defeated Santa Barbara, 66-65. Dexter Akanno scored 15 points, Jayden Trower 14, Zach Hawkins 12 and Matt Justice 11.

Simi Valley defeated Canoga Park, 92-27. Max Edwards had 35 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Campbell added 17 points and 16 rebounds.

In the Sierra Canyon tournament, Justin Kouyoumdjian had 23 points in La Canada’s 68-58 win over Mission Prep. Sean Estes and Patric Panoosi added 15 apiece. Campbell Hall defeated Calabasas, 67-64. Mike Meadows finished with 21 points. Jack Roggin had 21 points for Calabasas.

Oak Park defeated Westlake, 71-51. Riley Battin had 29 points.

In the University tournament, North Hollywood defeated Cleveland, 56-36. Los Angeles defeated Banning, 51-42. David Cheatom scored 16 points in University’s 88-45 win over Valley Academy. Palisades plays View Park Prep in Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinals and University plays LA at 7 p.m.

Van Nuys defeated Lincoln, 81-26. Kevin Hurlic had 26 points. Matthew Sykes added 18 points.

Heritage Christian improved to 8-0 with an 81-44 win over Canyon. Dillon Depina scored 22 points. Hart defeated Crescenta Valley, 65-62, and will face Heritage Christian on Thursday night. Ben Kaufman had 22 points.

Tesoro defeated San Dimas, 56-37. Justin MaCallop had 17 points.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Buckley, 72-45. Freshman Ziaire Williams had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Julian Rishwain added 15 points. Kanoa Johnson had 26 points and 16 rebounds for Buckley.

Valley Torah defeated ABGU, 77-55. Ryan Turrell contributed 28 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and eight blocks.
