Austin Hatch, a top high school basketball player from Indiana who has survived two plane crashes, will try to make a basketball comeback this season at Los Angeles Loyola.

The 6-foot-6 forward is moving from Fort Wayne, Ind., to Pasadena to live with a family member and attend Loyola. Classes begin Aug. 26.

The family confirmed the move in a statement on Monday, saying, “Austin continues to make steady improvement as he prepares for his final year of high school education.”

Hatch suffered a severe head injury in a plane crash on June 24, 2011, that killed his father, stepmother and a family dog near Charlevoix, Mich.

He committed to Michigan when he was a sophomore at Canterbury School. He missed all of last season working on his recovery and has been reclassified as a member of the 2014 class.

If he is physically able to play at Loyola, he’ll need eligibility approval from the CIF Southern Section.
