Boys’ basketball: It’s a Loyola-Corona Centennial final in San Diego

With No. 2-ranked Etiwanda having lost this week, No. 3 Los Angeles Loyola and No. 4 Corona Centennial could be moving on up depending on the outcome of their Monday championship game in the Under Armour tournament at Torrey Pines.

Centennial knocked off Chino Hills, 77-75, on a layup at the buzzer by Sedrick Barefield in its semifinal on Saturday night. Deontae North had 30 points and 15 rebounds. Loyola defeated previously unbeaten Sierra Canyon, 83-70. Thomas Welsh had 26 points, Max Hazzard 18 and Khalil Bedart-Ghani and Parker Jackson-Cartwright 15 apeice. Hazzard was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line and Loyola made 19 of 22 free throws.

No. 1 Mater Dei routed Anaheim Canyon, 95-65, in the Orange Holiday Classic. MJ Cage scored 27 points and had 14 rebounds. La’vette Parker added 23 points, making five threes.

Crespi pulled out a 67-58 win over Marin Catholic in overtime. Max Heidegger scored 29 points. Crespi faces Sacramento Grant on Monday in the championship game of the Marin Catholic tournament.

Fairfax defeated Rocklin, 61-58, on a three-point play by Lindsey Drew, who finished with 17 points. Sage Woodruff had 16 points and 18 rebounds. La Costa Canyon defeated Windward, 81-68. Freshman Jelan Harris had 22 points for Windward (9-3).

In the Chaminade tournament, Jack Williams had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Michael Oguine had 18 points and six steals to lift the host Eagles past Oaks Christian, 64-39, in a semifinal game.

In Santa Maria, El Camino Real defeated Montgomery, 52-43. Evan Wardlow had 13 points. Lawndale defeated Orange Lutheran, 59-57. Chimezie Metu had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brodericks Jones had 14 [pomts amd 12 rebounds. Lawndale will face El Camino Real on Monday night.

In the Covina semifinals, Damien defeated California, 63-40. Jeremy Hemsley and Micah Robinson had 17 points apiece.

In Rancho Mirage at the MaxPreps tournament, tiny Sacramento Capital Christian knocked off its second consecutive Division I power with a 47-43 win over Westchester. Earlier, Capital Christian defeated Etiwanda. UC Iroegbu scored 29 points. Long Beach Poly was beaten by Washington Jackson, 53-52, on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Brian Zehr. Etiwanda was beaten by St. Edward, 43-40.

Alex Copeland scored 31 points in Harvard-Westlake’s 90-81 win over Florida Tampa. Brentwood received 28 points from Yanthan Napoleon in a 83-50 win over Sacramento Bradshaw Christian. Napoleon made seven three-pointers.

Hart advanced the final of its own tournament with a 77-72 win over Highland. Myles Franklin had 24 points and Lewis Stallworth 23. Village Christian suffered its first defeat, losing to Righetti, 58-55. Bennie Boatwright had 28 points for Village Christian. Cameron Walker led Righetti with 15 points.

Sun Valley Poly defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 77-66. Francisco Marisol had 20 points. Eliijah Ellen led Notre Dame with 17 points.

Cambell Hall was beaten by Rancho Verde, 48-47, despite 15 points by Aaron Holiday. Birmingham defeated St. Bonaventure, 65-64. Christian Mendoza scored 20 points. Emry Marquez had 17, including the game-winning basket with three seconds left.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart, whose only losses this season have been to Loyola and Centennial, defeated Mayfair, 73-61. Gligorije Rakocevic scored 22 points, had 14 rebounds and four blocks. EJ Mejia had 23 points, making seven of his 10 shots. Kendall Small scored 24 points for Mayfair.

Thousand Oaks (13-2) defeated Vista, 62-44. Matt Hauser had 18 points.

In Arizona, St. John Bosco received 32 points from Tyler Dorsey in a 78-60 win over Arizona Gilbert.

Canyon Country Canyon won the Ventura tournament with a 68-59 win over Ventura. Dean Hendrix-Davis was named tournament MVP after scoring 25 points.

Newbury Park defeated Bishop Diego, 64-41. Tyler Cartaino had 17 points in the Santa Barbara tournament game.

Grant defeated Glendale, 51-41. Tony Reyes made five threes and finished with 17 points.

Calabasas defeated Alemany, 79-60. Larry Bush had 23 points and Jeremy Lieberman 21 in Rancho Mirage.

Westlake was beaten by West Ranch, 62-59. Christian Ware-Berry led West Ranch with 15 points. Marcos Soto had 18 points for Westlake. Whitter Christian defeated Riverside Prep, 47-40. Jake Rivera scored 21 points.

Scores from the Redondo tournament: Palisades 51, Culver City 50; Price 88, LB Jordan 51; North Torrance 78, Muir 76; Bishop Montgomery 74, Sacred Heart 64. Stevie Thompson had 23 points for Bishop Montgomery.

In Clovis, Royal defeated Clovis, 65-50. Nick Brandon had 19 points.
