Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei wins in double overtime

Santa Ana Mater Dei is going to the Southern California Regional Open Division final after pulling out a 67-64 double overtime victory over Etiwanda on Tuesday night.

Jordan McLaughlin kept rallying the Eagles, making a three-pointer with nine seconds left in the second overtime to pull Etiwanda to within 65-64. Stanley Johnson made two free throws with 4.2 seconds left. Johnson finished with 38 points and 14 rebounds. McLaughlin had 21 points. Mater Dei is 33-0.

Elijah Stewart scored 30 points in Westchester’s 76-67 victory over Redondo. Leland Green had 16 points for Redondo. Westchester opened a 16-point halftime lead thanks to outscoring the Sea Hawks, 25-9, in the third quarter.

In Division I, Sedrick Barefield scored 28 points and Deontae North 21 points to help Corona Centennial defeat Loyola, 81-77, in overtime. The Huskies will face Chino Hills, a 67-57 winner over Mayfair.

In Division II, Tyler Dorsey scored 30 points in St. John Bosco’s 84-64 win over Chula Vista Mater Dei. Vance Jackson had 25 points. The Braves will face Compton, an 81-78 winner over Anaheim Canyon in overtime. Isaiah Bailey and Iziahiah Sweeney scored 18 points apiece.

In Division III, Santa Margarita defeated Cathedral, 86-76, in overtime and will face Chaminade on Saturday. Justin Eisen scored 23 points in Chaminade’s 77-49 win over Brea.

In Division IV, Justin Bibbins scored 23 points in Bishop Montgomery’s 74-53 win over Gardena Serra. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Sierra Canyon, 62-54. E.J. Mejia scored 16 points. Gligorije Rakocevic had 12 points, Balsa Dragovic scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds and Joey Covarrubias 10 points.

In Division V, Darius Henderson scored 19 points in View Park’s 83-71 win over San Gabriel Academy. Marcus LoVett Jr. scored 39 points.
