Football: Former St. John Bosco center Elijah Zabludoff finally experiences defeat

In 2013, Elijah Zabludoff was the starting center for quarterback Josh Rosen on St. John Bosco’s 16-0 football team.

He moved on the Amherst College, where the team went 8-0 in 2014 and 8-0 in 2015. That means he went more than three years without experiencing defeat in football.

Then came Sept. 8, when Amherst lost to Middlebury, 27-26. Zabludoff had a 34-game win streak come to an end.

“My record is 35-1 in the last four years,” he said via Twitter. “A loss had to come sometime. Along with 34 straight wins, we had some balls bounce our way and calls benefit us, and it caught up with me finally.

“It’s hard to lose but it’s a big part of the game and now it’s on us to find the issues and fix them.”

There was some humor in how he lost his first game since 2012.

“Actually the game we lost ended exactly like the way SJB beat De La Salle in ‘13,” he said. “They intercepted a screen pass and ran a read option on third down for the first to seal the game.”
