Singers don't normally make it into the sports segment on News7. But famed musician Bruce Hornsby and his son are the topic of this week's Hometown Hoops Weekly.
Bruce Hornsby has 13 Grammy nods to his credit and three wins in the bag. For his son Keith, it took a while for his dad's success to sink in.
"To me that is just my dad, and really it is all that I have ever known," said Keith.
Now the younger Hornsby is making a name for himself, playing for one of the nation's top teams in the country, Oak Hill Academy.
His dad once laced up his sneakers too, so who is the better player?
"I was better than he was, that is for sure," said Keith.
We will take his word for it, and we will also say that Dad has the advantage as a musician. Bruce's hits came back in the 80's, but there is still a connection between father and son in that department.
"I do like his music. I have probably like fifteen to twenty songs on my iPod," said Keith.
Pappa Hornsby's music has also gotten a generational boost due to sampling, so while young Keith only has a dozen or so of his dad's original songs on his playlist, he has a lot more selections with some artists closer to his age.
Whether on the court or in the studio, there is tons of talent in the Hornsby family.
