Spring football practice is underway in Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Hokies.

It's one of the most pivotal springs in Frank Beamer's tenure as head coach.  Coach Beamer blew up the offense following the bowl game against Rutgers, thanks in large part to the Hokies 7 and 6 record, their worst in 20 years.

Scot Loeffler is in as the offensive coordinator, while Jeff Grimes is the new line coach.

The running game needs a makeover and someone to emerge as a feature back.  That someone could be Dan River product Trey Edmunds.

Defensively, the Hokies return the core of the defensive line, including Luther Maddy and Derrick Hopkins.

The secondary could be an issue early, especially given that Antone Exum is out following ACL surgery.

Fans have two chances to see the Hokies before the fall, next Saturday in an open scrimmage at 2:45 and in the spring game on April 20th at 3 p.m.
