UPDATE: Roanoke College grad finishes 7th in cycling at London Olympics

Shelley Olds, who graduated from Roanoke College in 2003, competed in the women's road cycling event Sunday morning.

She finished 7th, with a flat tire ruining her pursuit of the medalists down the stretch.


A Roanoke College graduate is in London and getting ready to compete in the Summer Olympics.

Shelly Olds graduated from Roanoke College in 2003. On Sunday, Olds will compete on the U.S. Olympic Road Cycling team

On July 29, she'll be on the starting line of the women's Olympic road cycling race as a member of the U.S. Olympic Road Cycling Team.

According to Roanoke College, Olds is the second graduate of the school to compete in the Olympics. Dick Emberger placed 10th in the decathlon at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. Emberger graduated from the school in 1960.

Olds played soccer at Roanoke College and served as the Maroons' captain for two seasons.
