It was later rather than Sooner, but Oklahoma won four games in two days to claim the Charlottesville Regional and advance in the NCAA baseball tournament.

OU beat Appalachian State twice on Monday to advance to the Super Regionals opposite South Carolina.

The Sooners took the first game of the day 14-6, forcing a final match between the same two teams. Oklahoma took an early lead and held on to win and advance 5-2.

That excitement followed two wins by the Sooners on Sunday in a pair of elimination games.

OU knocked out the host school, Virginia, ending a run of three-straight regional title seasons from the Wahoos. Two of those years included trips to the College World Series.

"It's meant the world. I've learned so much here and been around great players," senior pitcher Shane Halley said after the losses. "Playing under these coaches, I've learned so much. Just being able to watch these young guys this year, it's been awesome."

Tunstall's Justin Thompson, Keith Werman and Halley are the most successful seniors in program history, part of a school-record 195 wins over their four years.

"Just try to hold it together," a glassy-eyed Werman said, describing his final at bat. "Do the best I could for the team."

Virginia head coach Brian O'Connor added, "Those three individuals that won't have an opportunity to wear our uniform again have always represented this program with a tremendous amount of class."

The program got some good news on Monday. Former Cavalier Sean Doolittle made it to the major leagues with Oakland.

The All-American and 2006 ACC Player of the Year was in uniform for the A's Monday night against Texas.

Doolittle made it to triple-A in 2009 as a position player before his career was derailed by injuries.

He remade himself as a left-handed relief pitcher and rose dramatically all the way from single-A to the majors just this season.

Doolittle is the 30th UVa player to make it to the show.
