TRENTON, NJ (WPIX)—The New Jersey Devils lost game one of their first round playoff series Wednesday night to the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1.
The Flyers, the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference, stymied the Devils offense behind 23 saves from Brian Boucher.
Philadelphia opened the scoring 9:25 into the second period with a goal by defenseman Chris Pronger.
Mike Richards followed that with a goal of his own 7:02 later to make it 2-0 Flyers.
The Devils' Travis Zajac cut the Flyer lead in half at 17:17 in the third period, but the team's late game surge ultimately fell short.
Philadelphia's dominance over the Devils might not come as a surprise, given the Flyers 5-1 record against New Jersey during the regular season.
Martin Brodeur made 12 saves for the Devils.
Game two is Friday night in New Jersey.
