MISHAWAKA - Demetrius Jackson of Marian High School joined the ranks of high school basketball's elite today with his selection to the 2013 McDonald’s All American Boys Team.

Jackson now joins an impressive list of players who have played in the McDonald’s All American Games including: Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Alonzo Mourning, LeBron James and Derrick Rose

“It's crazy.  It's really surreal", Jackson says about the honor.

"All of the NBA greats, all the people you see now on TV in the NBA were most likely  Mcdonald's All-Americans.  To have my name on the same list as that?  It's a blessing really."

South Bend Washington's Skylar Diggins was a McDonald's All-American in 2009.  Former Concord star Shawn Kemp is the last northern Indiana boys player to receive the honor in 1988.

Jackson will play at Notre Dame next season, the 6th McDonald's all-american to play for Mike Brey, joining Chris Thomas(2001), Ryan Humphrey(1997), Torin Francis(2002), Dan Miller(2003) and Luke Zeller(2005).

"Growing up I never thought I'd have the opportunity", Jackson says.  "Being able to go to Notre Dame is a blessing in itself, but being a McDonald's All-American, being nominated for Mr. Basketball, it's all really surreal."

Jackson is averaging nearly 28 PPG this season at Marian. The 36th Annual Boys Game will tip-off on Wednesday, April 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET from Chicago’s United Center and will be broadcast on ESPN.

The 12th Annual Girls Game will precede the Boys Game, beginning at 5 p.m. ET and will broadcast live on ESPNU.  Two future Notre Dame players, guard Lindsay Allen and forward Taya Reimer will play for the East squad in that game.
