WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue finished the non-conference season with a 3-1 record after beating Marshall 51-41 at Ross Ade Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Boilermakers gained 443 yards on offense and were aided by two interception returns for touchdowns in the win over the Thundering Herd.
Quarterback Caleb TerBush took every snap on Saturday afternoon completing 27-of-37 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. His counterpart, the nation's leading passer Rakeem Cato, was 45-of-68 for 439 yards with five touchdowns but three interceptions.

Two of those ended up becoming points for Purdue in the first half following three touchdown throws from TerBush and a Akeem Shavers rushing score in the first two quarters. Defensive back Ricardo Allen took an interception back 39-yards for the score to make it 35-14, the fourth interception touchdown return in his career which broke the school record held by Rod Woodson.
On the next drive Josh Johnson topped that by taking a Cato pass 76-yards for the score to make it 42-14 going into halftime.
Marshall used three Cato touchdown passes and a blocked punt for a score to twice cut the Purdue lead to ten but the Boilermakers were able to hold on for the victory.
Purdue will open the Big Ten season next week at home against Michigan.
